What's up y'all, I'm Lil Shay, angel girl you feel me. Holdin' down the west side, but currenly in the midwest, Oklahoma. I started rapping when I was thirteen and now here I am, puttin' it the beats and just doin' what I do ya know.
Why this name?
I came up with the name "Lil Shay" in high school. I was rappin' all the time and I needed a stage name, and I was goin' by Dashayla so I broke it down to "Lil Shay" and that's where it came from.
Do you play live?
I've never played live, but I'm lookin' forward to it. Just waitin for agents to set up events ya know, and I take any chance I get to perform at the local mall or at a fair. So it's cool to do that.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I mean it gives people a chance to put their stuff out there and actually feel like they have a chance to make it ya know. It gives you the studio feel if you don't have one, or it gives you a sample before you hit up the studio. It's got a great impact on artist.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I don't see why not. I've always wanted work with So So Def, and with a major label that's what gets you out and famous. Everybody can hear your music. I'd probably sign with New No Limit too though.
Your influences?
Bow wow was the first person that made me pick up a mike and spit rhymes. I was thirteen and saw him bouncin' on the bike and was like "Oh snap he just a kid, let me see if I can do it. " Went in the room and just started rippin it. Been rappin' since. My music also started from Lil Romeo and Twista, and my uncle Jayblaze (check out his soundclick) all made me feel like I could do this. Kept pushing until I made a little further each time ya know.
Favorite spot?
I'm from the West Side, but man my daddy's side is from Georgia, and I kicked it in ATL and that's the place to be right there. I ain't even gon' front and that's what's up.
Equipment used:
Until I get a studio, straight up beats and a computer. Boot Leg studio I guess you could say. But everybody gotta start somewhere.
Anything else...?
I just wanna say when you hear my stuff, holla at me and tell me what you think aight. I'll get back at you.
