Frolic is a trio that offers ethereal washes of sound and angelic, crystal, female vocals. Reminicent of Love Spirals Downwards, This Mortal Coil, or Dead Can Dance, Frolic signed to Projekt Records in 2001, releasing their second album "To Dream, Perchance to Sleep". Amazon.com voted them one of the top 10 New Age albums of 2001, and they are highly acclaimed in ethereal and gothic music circles.
Why this name?
Kelly chose the name in 1995.
Do you play live?
No, we're pretty much a studio band as Matt and Kelly are in Orlando and Jon, our guitarist and engineer, is in Ohio.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
mp3s definitely started a revolution that is only snowballing. MP3s are the best communication vehicle ever for learning about new music. Long live the net!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Not directly. We would only be interested if we were licensed via our indie label that allows us full control of our music.
Your influences?
We are very ambient, etheral, and sometimes droney, layering Kelly's beautiful vocals amidst Jon's crystalline guitarwork and Matt's synth textures. Think Enya, but a bit darker.
Favorite spot?
We love Florida because of its tropical climate, but used to live in the San Fran Bay area, which was just stunning and dramatic, but expensive!
Equipment used:
Our electronic gear consists of an Ensoniq ASR-10, Roland HS-60, Korg Wavestation A/D, and I'm just starting to get into Absynth. I do all the recording in Cakewalk Sonar.
