At times leading a band, but more often going it solo, Matthew Dewey distills years of hard-knock travel and zen introspection into bluesrock tunes that smolder like Hooker, howl like Waits, keen like Dylan, dance like the Dead, and seek always to shine from what he likes to call "the musical heart of love". His debut full-length, full-band release, recorded live in a Zen temple in Korea, is a double album containing 112 minutes of music. Entitled Seon Dogs Play Chain Gang Shastras, it is available online at CDBaby.com.

Zen bluesrock recorded LIVE in a Korean Zen temple? It sure as hell ain’t the sound of one hand clapping...

Why this name?
My name from birth!
Do you play live?
Whenever, wherever I can -- as long as people are present and want to listen.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's just evolution, baby!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'd have to have a damn good lawyer.
Your influences?
Chris Whitley, Daniel Lanois, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, John Lee Hooker, Tom Waits
Favorite spot?
Haven't found it yet. Hanoi was mysteriously cool. Bangkok is always fun. Riding motorbikes around the island of Bali was probably the best time I ever had. Ask me again after I go to Estonia this summer.
Equipment used:
National Resophonic, Fender Vibrolux, Acoustic Image Clarus, various effects units. Indigenous instruments as they crop up, especially drums and gongs.
Anything else...?
The best things in life are not things.
