Linguistix hails from NC. The triangle is where it's happening right now. The group consists of two emcees, Habit and Absalute (who also produces) and one producer, DJ Bustuinyogrill, AKA DJ Saw Blade. "Hab" and "Abs" are two regular dudes that are mostly chill and love to just sit back and make music. DJ Bustuinyogrill is a rather dark and ominous character, and noone has met him except Habit and Absalute. Check out his Soundclick page.
Why this name?
Habit: Actually a friend chose it. It seems to fit because we're all about the language skills.
Do you play live?
We're about to start performing live...around town though.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it does more good than harm personally. First of all, there are so many more people that have access to listening to a full album these days because alot of people can't afford to buy cds. This encourages an artist and the industry to put out quality albums as opposed to just one single that catches fire. Also, it gives alot of artists exposure. Look at Little Brother, they've gone to major acceptance really rapidly because they put out a good solid product. This also starts to dwindle the record company and the RIAA's stranglehold monopoly over the music, which is a great thing. It puts some of the power back in the artist's hands.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Hell yea. I'm young and I haven't established myself as an artist, and to be honest I want lots of money. Now I could see if I were in my late 20's or early 30's and had established myself as sort of an underground fixture, then maybe it would be different. For now though, the offer is on the table, as long as I can still do my music the way I want to.
Band History:
Long long story that can be told at a later date...
Your influences?
Justus League, THETHYRDAY, KHill as far as rap goes. Other musical influences in my life range from Alison Krauss and Ben Harper to Bob James and Bill Evans to Frank Sinatra to the Sex Pistols...get the idea?
Favorite spot?
Bull City and Chapel Thrill. No doubt two of the illest places on earth. I love the Local 506 in Chapel Hill and pretty much everywhere in Durham.
Equipment used:
Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and Fruity Loops 2.4 and lots and lots of samples. A mic and a cable and a tiny ass homemade booth with carpet on the walls. Sound quality is to die for.
Anything else...?
We sincerely appreciate each and everyone of you that stop by and we love anyone who loves our music or loves music in general. PEACE
