dvaoa band started as a band of one...with help from friends on occasion. Now evolving into a collaborative recording format with talented victims from all over the world...
Why this name?
It came to me in a burning bush. It left terrible scars.
Do you play live?
I run a youth praise band at my church for kids who would normally run screaming. I think I've learned more from them than they have from me. A truly eye/ear-opening experience.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's made it wide open, especially now that there's absolutely nothing worth listening to on corporate radio. It's also opened doors for collaborative projects, which woul've been nearly impossible a decade ago. As with everything, the dark side of this is illegal downloading of artists' blood & sweat, and the death of high fidelity and aural nuance by digital compression.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Depends on the details, although the chances of that ever happening lie somewhere between zero and almost none.
Your influences?
UFO, Michael Schenker, Wishbone Ash, Days of the New, Gov't Mule, Joe Bonamassa, Judas Priest, SRV. Generally, melodic hard rock/metal, hard blues, etc. but I like listening to anything, from the sublime to the ridiculous. It's all GOOD!
Favorite spot?
Captiva Island, Florida. The place I get to relax down to the bone.
Equipment used:
Carvin DC200 - two Xaviere XV500's - El Degas LP knockoff w/DiMarzio's - homebrew FrankenStrat guitars, Atomic Reactor 112 with POD 2.0/Vox Tonelab/Zoom G2.1U/Digitech RP350, Tech 21 TM30, Yamaha Bass + Carvin PB100 Bass amp, Boss DR670 drum machine, Yamaha DTX II electronic drums, EV767 mic + PreSonus TubePre preamp. I record on PC using Kristal Audio Engine...I highly recommend it. Acoustic stuff is mic'ed and electric zounds go direct via amp modelers. I am NOT a purist.
Anything else...?
I'm really your typical jack-of-all-trades, master of none. Zero musical instruction/training, all ear...for better or worse. Because I've been able to pick up (read: fake) almost anything I apply myself to, I've never had the discipline to push myself further. Curses!
