Little Bob Fugate was born in 1938, and raised at Hardshell, Kentucky, on the water of Troublesome Creek, a tributary of the North Fork of the Kentucky River, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, in the heart of the eastern Kentucky mountains and in the heart of the fued lands, called "Bloody" Breathitt in the fued days of Kentucky. Members of the Fugate family have lived on Troublesome Creek, nearly 175 years. Old Jonathan and Hannah Fugate came from Virginia, and settled on Troublesome Creek. This is his first album which he has recorded himself on his portable magnetic tape recorder. All the instruments heard in this album Bob played himself; even when two are played at once and even when two voices are harmonizing in a song. He first records playing and singing on one instrument, then replays the tape, and records with another instrument and harmonizes with himself. One of the most talented musicians ever to come out of the Kentucky hills. it is even more remarkable when we consider Bob can't read a note of music. He plays four instruments in this album.
Why this name?
He was tall but skinny and no doubt the name "little" was added to his name because there was a big Bob Fugate say his father.
