Richard Kapp, born 1976, is a Singer/Songwriter living in the city of Vienna, Austria. From an early age he has been involved in the creation of music, first came the piano, then came the drums and later guitar (although he is still learning!). A prolific musician in his native city he has been involved in many different musical projects as a keyboardist, drummer and composer.

Richard's songs have been featured on several compilations like "Planet Of Sound Vol. I", the benefit CD "Hope Never Dies", "Band:Union IV" and "Band:Union V". His music has been compared to Scott Walker, Rufus Wainwright, Burt Bacharach, The Divine Comedy, Lou Reed, 10cc, ELO, Zappa, The Beatles and even Iggy Pop. All those different styles, influences, his mixture of electronic and acoustic elements made him gaining a lot of recognition on the indie scene for his unique connection to music. Meanwhile, Richard has been played on several radio stations including the scottish station Radio Six.

The debut album "A Tie For Free" surprises constantly with all kind of moods and different vibes. Or as Gordon Bell, reviewer at Ripping Tracks and producer of Gustav Bertha put it: "It's high art and music hall, pop and sarcasm. How does he pack so much stuff into a track without losing it? We've no idea, but it's quite simply brilliant. What fun!"

Why this name?
That was easy, my name is indeed Richard Kapp.
Do you play live?
I play some gigs from time to time - with several bands and solo.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it changes it a lot - positively.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No, don't think so as I prefer freedom of creativity over money. But I'd like to sign with a nice and open-minded "medium" label.

Your influences?
I have a lot of musical influences as I can hear something special or interesting in almost any musical style. Some influences: ELO, Burt Bacharach, The Divine Comedy, Scott Walker, Elvis Costello, 10cc, Naked City, Jaques Brel, Maurice Ravel, Tschaikowsky, Simon&Garfunkel, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Soft Machine (yes, all the Machines;), Rage against the machine (haha), Jamiroquai, Dave Brubeck, Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds, Billy Joel, Aqualung, Gabe Dixon, Chick Corea, Dave Weckl, The Zombies, Abba, Supertramp, Genesis (the old stuff with Peter Gabriel), Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Ekseption, Yellowyackets, Lou Reed and many, many more.
Favorite spot?
Hmm...I like my hometown very much, but I also love all those nice & beautiful towns in Sweden like Malmoe or Lund.
Equipment used:
Most of it is done at home with very good mixing software, a great mic and some instruments. :) But I collaborate with other musicians who record at their studios or also at home and we transfer the files via internet.
