5skin was born December in the year 2002. It blossomed in South Florida by a group of musicians who were less than satisfied with the lethargic state of music consuming the airwaves. The feeling among the members was that an even more aggressive style of music, both recorded and live, was clearly needed. 5skin is the answer to that philosophy. The band puts a mammoth amount of non-stop energy into their music and their popular live performances. 5skin is NOT a heavy metal band with the same monotonous themes, screams and overtures that was once popular a decade ago. Instead, they are a hard-rocking, innovative band with clear messages contained both in their music and lyrics.
Why this name?
It started as a serious discussion about a transformation between our routine lives as compared to our musical lives and the energetic live shows. We contemplated Second Skin, Other Skin, Etc. Then, someone blurted out a silly idea involving the word "skin" and then we decided to change it by one number, seeing as there are 5 members in the group. Ultimately, we thought 5skin sounded like a good name.
Do you play live?
Yes, we play live, about 2-3 shows a month when we aren't in the studio.

We mainly tour in Florida. We LOVE the live aspect of music and we really get it on when we're on stage.

There are so many moments to choose from, but I can think of one pretty funny one. One of our guitarists decided to place or lean his foot on the stage monitor in front of him. Well, the monitor gave way, he wiped out and swanned dived off the stage, THEN, to add insult to injury (literally) he threw his guitar to a tech, but the guitar was still plugged in, so it fell short of the tech and it smashed on the ground. Unfortunately, the guitar was injured and needed a little medical attention. However, the guitar player was NOT hurt. Except maybe his pride!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
For the hardcore music lovers, it definitely is a big plus because of the free music and the easy sharing and marketing of songs. But, I don't think it hurts as bad as some of the major artists claim. Just look at the record sales numbers. Maybe as more and more people become more proficient with mp3 and the implementation of it throughout the years it may in that aspect cause some small problems. However, I think it is a fantastic tool and I find it to be a major asset in the various facets of the internet.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
That's a great question with a lot of issues, but yes I do believe we would be willing to sign if the deal is a good one and that woud have to include the issue of the mp3 on the internet.
Band History:
Prior to 5skin, the members played with several local bands that had the opportunity to open up for national acts and gigged extensively on the east coast for several years. This new group believes it has found the secret chemistry and feels passionately it is a band like none other you will hear today. 5skin has an instilled pride regarding both their individuality and product of music they deliver. Ultimately, it is only the music that matters and 5skin is ready to put the pedal down on a music industry that needs a kick in the “gas”.
Your influences?
There are too many to list, but I'll start with Led Zeppelin, more recently, Filter, Tool, Incubus, STP, Foo Fighters, Chili Peppers, etc.
