I am the Grand Prize Winner of the 2007 International Songwriting Competition for my collaboration with Eduard Glumov, "I'm Not Your Friend." We also won First Prize in the Rock/Alt Division of the Great American Song Contest. One judge called it a prime example of "world-class songwriting" and said the images in the were "often stunning."

I'm a lyricist and have been collaborating with musicians from California to Kazakhstan, over the Internet. The fruits of that collaboration are found here, and at
Why this name?
Z. Mulls is short, catchy, easy to remember, impossible to misspell, and stands out in a list. And it's easy for people to just call me "Z."
Do you play live?
No. I have performed but in terms of writing music I'm not performing.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
More people can make and distribute their own music. More working musicians, smaller fan bases, less money made on music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I'll be happy writing with, or for, any performing artist who will get out there and sing my words.
Your influences?
Dave Frishberg, Stephen Sondheim, William Finn, Randy Newman....anyone who can put words together and make them sing. Belle and Sebastian, The Decemberists, Paul Simon, The Mountain Goats...
Favorite spot?
Philadelphia, PA. I'm pretty partial to Chapel Hill, NC as well.
Equipment used:
A Pilot Razor Point Felt tip pen, and sometimes a rhyming dictionary and a thesaurus. I'm on a Macbook.
Anything else...?
I've joined the Philly Songwriters Association and the local chapter of NARAS as an associate member.
