Hailing from New Orleans, LA, Lord Waverly operates by a strong asthetic rooted in modern architecture: Simplify, then repeat. Their lyrics are delicate and melodies are fragile, pretty little things that conjure emotions connected to childhood and innocence, while remaining connected to the more bittersweet relationships we encounter throughout adulthood.
Why this name?
"No deep or significant meaning. It was either that or The Carlyles. But since there's only one member, I went with Lord Waverly."
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
"Considering how little good music is getting rotation on radio and tv, the internet is the only place to find talented songwriting or, at least, interesting music. And it has created a method for music lovers to search for artists they may otherwise never have heard of. For such a musical city, certainly a music "hub" in America, New Orleans has a saddeningly narrow music scene. Without the advantages of the internet, I would not have heard of more than half of my current favorite bands. So there."
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
"Of course. I'm not one of those artists who's afraid to make money. I'm not afraid of how money will change me. Change is good. But paper money is better. Better than change! See what I did there? ...Sorry."
Band History:
"Lord Waverly is one guy from New Orleans. That's me. I record in my private studio all on my lonesome. While I'd love to perform, my frustration with the local music scene bullied me into resorting to the one-man-in-a-studio thing. But it has worked out quite nicely. I make the music I want to hear."
Your influences?
"David Bowie, The Beatles, Burt Bacharach, Beach Boys, Pulp, Morrissey, Elliott Smith, Badly Drawn Boy, Eric Matthews, Rufus Wainwright, Dandy Warhols, Pixies, Kings of Convenience, The Sundays, Nick Drake, Scott Walker, The Divine Comedy, Belle & Sebastian, Roxy Music, Blur, High Llamas, The Kinks, Steve Harley, Radiohead, T Rex, Pink Floyd, The Hollies, blah blah etc etc..."
Favorite spot?
"NYC, London, and Barcelona... Where I want to live, work and retire."
