Why this name?
Most bands choose a name because; - a the singer has a charismatic name & a big ego! b it seemed like a good/amusing idea at the time c because the manager said it ‘fits your image’ or d the name actually has a meaning to the members of the band.......
GogMAgoG falls into the last category.. the word, itself, is simple-almost a palindrome-& seems to exist in a vacuum between childish babble & ancient mystical meaning (many spells & incantations use words which are similar in form & style). The word was chosen with this specific intention & to be easily understood & memorable (although reaction to the word, & there is a reaction, nearly always demands a repeat)-there always seems to be an almost instinctive sense of consternation on hearing the word-& on further research some of this becomes clearer.....
Originally, the germ of the idea was of twin giants (no one seems to be sure if there were 2 or 1-which reflects the guitar style of the band) who were the guardians of the gates of Albion. The statues of Gogmagog (or Gog & Magog) & Corineus, were at the entrance of the London Guild Hall until the 2nd world war& they were, supposedly, the original inhabitants of Britain who were defeated by Brute & his trojans when they landed in Britain (the usual usurpation of native gods by incomers!)....
Another strand of the idea came from the place name Gogmagog. There are at least 2 in Britain, 1 in Oxfordshire & 1 in Somerset, near Glastonbury. The hills in Oxfordshire also boast a land carving of the giants-the hill was, supposedly, formed when a Giant fell in love with a wood nymph who rejected him...he died & became one with the land!....

Do you play live?
Fairly regularly...but getting gigs in the North West is difficult...we have no agent, etc, so its all word of mouth - the best gig, so far, was at the Wigan Tavern, partly due to 2 important factors.....good organisation and an excellent and sympathetic soundman
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
....the basic opportunity to listen freely to all genres of music and then, discovering something that appeals, go and see the band/artist live
....we want people to listen to our music and then come see us play and share in the joy of making music

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes...with the emphasis on correct and realistic distribution and decent exposure for the band...a difficult one to answer....the goal is to contribute something different, to make a difference (without being ‘precious’), to produce a product which logically requires its reward...NOT to line the pockets of myriad executives, directors, etc........

Favorite spot?
Collectively...when we are playing music together experiencing a special synergy.....individually they range from birdwatching on Frodsham marsh to floating on the water getting toasted by the sun (someplace like Ibiza) to getting falling down drunk!!!!
