I've been composing and performing music for about eight years.
Why this name?
I've always just seemed to stick with it.
Do you play live?
I play live in a funk cover band, and a jazz band. Funk Eh! has been kickin' for about 2 1/2 years; having it's fair change in personel. It's probably one of the most enjoyable bands ive been in.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It allows you to deliver your music straight to the listener. Less resistance.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
yes.
Band History:
After eight years of composing and performing, Sarnia musician David Puzak quickly established himself as one of the community’s preeminent musical artists. He is well-known across the city for his consistently outstanding gigs at local establishments like Ups N’ Downs, Paddy Flahertey’s, and Hiawatha Race Track; in addition to playing at these regular shows, Puzak frequently participates in benefit concerts for Amnesty International and the Canadian Cancer Society. His dedication and ability have ensured him continual success among proprietors, organizations, and audiences alike. Much of Puzak’s off-stage time is spent producing and recording in his personal basement studio, which he affectionately dubs “The Jamnasium.” Aside from composing his own diverse work, he records and produces for local punk band SRB. Puzak was a co-founding member and chief songwriter/arranger of the Sarnia jazz/fusion band St. Helen’s Alumni; their two EPs, True High Fidelity and Code Red, highlight Puzak’s formidable musical aptitude. It is no surprise, then, that Juno Award winners Miranda and Latoya Walsh sought his talents for their upcoming single, “Beautiful Stranger.” Furthermore, Puzak worked closely with Adam Miner on his album “Goodbye Blue Autumn” and with Byram Joseph (Slakah) of Beatchild Productions. He has also written music, on more than one occasion, for TVO. Rather than limiting himself to a single genre, Puzak skillfully manipulates a wide range of the modern musical spectrum. For instance, his most recent project – a full length album entitled “Yesterday Was Just a Dream” – deftly blends jazz, rock, and R&B sounds into a smooth pop formula. As a gifted guitar instructor, he focuses on jazz studies and advanced theory. Puzak’s strongest musical influences include Miles Davis, Dave Matthews Band, The Beatles, and the numerous local artists he has had the privilege to work with.
Your influences?
I've really been inspired by jazz. The harmony, voice leads, timbres. Pop rock has also been a large influence in my writing.
Favorite spot?
I'd liketo travel more before I make that call.
