Aqua regia (Latin for "royal water") is a highly corrosive, fuming yellow or red liquid formed by a fresh mixture of concentrated nitric acid (otherwise known as aqua fortis) and concentrated hydrochloric acid, usually in a volumetric ratio of one to three.
