Got2Remember are led by Father and Son team Niles and Nathan Hailstones. Originally formed as a Djembe
Drumming group in 2001 to pass on the wealth of the African Drum and Oral Tradition to future generations.
After working in schools, colleges and local events in the community it became clear that todays youth had little or no knowlegde of the roots and culture of storytelling. As Father and Son G2R represent a return to tradition and come at a time when positive images are few and far between.G2R Use African rhythms fused with Hip Hop,Jazz,R&B and Reggae, to reintroduce our community to the iStory of the Drum, and the tradition of Word,Sound & Power!
Why this name?
Putting back the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle led to a process of remembering, reactivating and reanimating the past into the present, which lead us into the future.
so it is like the principle of the Adinkra Symbol Sankofa - "Go and Fetch It". 2 represents Father/Son and the Elephant symbol/metaphor represents the Power of Memory
Do you play live?
We have been in the studio for over a year, so we don't do a lot of live gigs at the moment, although we still do Djembe drumming workshops and performances at a grassroots level. We sometimes attend Spoken Word gigs on the London Scene, but are currently getting prepared for the next stage of our mission.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
With piracy rife and an obvious reduction in sound quality of the mp3 compared to it pedecessors, it's a double edged sword, but it's an exciting time for
independent artists with the potentiality of the internet to do business on your own terms.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the money was right and we knew we could set up a base to carry out our works in the community no matter what happened with the politics of the deal, maybe!!!

"Walk Like An Elephant"

An I-firmation:

"As we begin to grasp the umbilical cord that connects us to footsteps far greater than we...
An inner flame ignites...Creating the fire that burns illusions.
Eyes aflame...only truth can rise from the ashes...
Memories reborn in flesh will manifest
in dancing feet..
and the hearts of our children".
