My name is Charles Otis McWhorter. I am a self taught singer/songwriter, producer and engineer. I began writing music in my early teens. Over the last 28 years I've offered my voice and my compositional abilities to numberous bands and conglomerations. In early 2003 I decided to go it alone and built my own hone recording studio and have in the short time since then amassed a catalogue of material that spans 4 albums. Some of it I'll offer for parousal here.
Why this name?
I was born and then christened and then dropped McWhorter for ease of recall by others.
Do you play live?
I would love to play live. As of yet I do not have a back up band for my material. It's difficult to get other musicians to commit to your vision without a generous pay check to dangle as bait.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
In the short time I have been submitting my work to sites such as this and GarageBand. I have had a mixed yet fruitful avalanche of feed back. Not all good. Not all bad.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes I would sign a contract with a major lable if they were considerate enough to respect my requirments as to how my work and I are handled. I'm 42 years old. I'm a little too old to be molded and told what to do.
Band History:
My information is availble when you press the play button and listen to one of my songs. My history is expansive and not something I generally choose to bore people with.
Your influences?
I generally enjoy bands or artists whom write intellegently. I don't like saccarin lyrics and radio fluff. I enjoy artists like Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Kate Bush and the like. Emotion about important socially based issues are what I prefer to hear.
Favorite spot?
I love my home with my partner. It's where a good majority of my most important work has been done. I would like to return and visit San Francisco and California again before it slides into the drink or gets blown to smithereens by Al Khaeda.
Equipment used:
Sony Acidpro 6 home recording and engeneering programs, AudioBlaster sound cards, Sure microphones, Ovation performance series acoustic guitar, Sears Silvertone electric guitar, Yahama keyboards, Tama jazz series drum kit and assorted other sirens whistles and noise makers including my mouth.
