What up everybody. My name's Mike Martin. I'm basically just a young n*** from Jersey doin what I enjoy most. Just to let u kno from the gate, I'm nothin like anything u ever heard b4. Thats why I named my first album "Nothing You're Used To".
Why this name?
Well Mike Martin is my real name. And i chose to use my real name cuz i'm a real n*** makin real music thats real hot. So that was the real reason behind it for real lol. And if a n*** dont like me, then u REALLY not real.
Do you play live?
So far i've only done one live performance. It was a talent show at Drexel University in philly. I'll never forget that night, cuz i f***ed my knee up like CRAZY lol.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well for one, it makes music alot more accessible. It also can hurt the music industry as well cuz the opportunity to steal music is alot higher on the net, u kno. But I like it cuz it makes promotion a whole lot easier. U can get a worldwide buzz by just sittin at home clickin the mouse here and there.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Truthfully, only if they were providing my needs for my own label. Major labels aint shit, i hate the idea of em. They don't give a f*** about art or makin music that can really be related to and/or enjoyed by the listeners. All the labels care about is makin money. Thats why ppl like 50 Cent are crazy hot, and ppl like Beanie Sigel struggle like a muhf***a. Just cuz the public cant handle anyone thats real.
Band History:
Umm. Well I started rappin as a hobby back in 2001. F***ed up thing is I was writin one of my first few rhymes while the whole 9/11 sh*** was goin down. But anyway, I decided I was gonna chase rap as a career back in May of 2005. Then I started writin songs, just tryna get my skills up. And finally I recorded my first ever song, which was Definition of Greatness, on January 4, 2006.
Your influences?
I'm influenced by almost everything man. But my main influences are Jay-Z, Kanye West, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli. My style is similar to a spoken word, like Talib Kweli, but with attitude, more like a modern day 2pac.
Favorite spot?
Jersey is DEEP in me man. I'm New Jersey to the heart. Point black, period.
Equipment used:
My brain, my fingers, and Microsoft Word lol
