Don't let the lyrics fool you, its not about hating white people, this song is a follow-up to a classic song from Billie Holiday "Strange Fruit."
Matell's version takes on the views of what is happening in Iraq with our troops and why are they dying in this war. Eastern Trees is not about protesting the war, its simply saying our men and women are dying and certain Iraqi persons are killing our men & women. This must stop now.
Eastern Trees is written in the style of "Strange Fruit" but in Billie Holiday's the theme was about blacks being lynched in the South.
Is Iraq not the same? In following up Matell had this question, What would Lady Day say if she was alive today?

Its a song about where have we come since Jesus Been Gone, Since Marvin Gaye wrote a song called Whats Going On - my song takes the perspective of What would Marvin say? What would Jesus say?

It was a number one Gospel song in early 2008, and I didn't write it has a gospel song, but its about saving the children of this WORLD from dying, stop mothers from abandoning them, stop abused, stop sexual abuse. In the words it say "You found me at my worst, and I thought my life was curse, but now I'm found..."

This song does not support the gay rights to marry if that what you think, its wrong. This song is purely about LOVE, loving someone that doesn't love you back and that's why its call a Love Brokeback as the words say in the song. Matell began when he was eight-year-old and started singing around the house for the family. Matell was later recruited by Minnie Foxx, Minnie Foxx, who also happens to be a famous singer/actress from stage and film, he was asked to sing in her 2005 Minnie Foxx Revue and Friends concert, and was a featured performer in a tribute to Nancy Wilson at the 2004 BMA Music Awards. Matell joined an acting group in Los Angeles - the same year he was in the following films Bottoms Up staring Paris Hilton, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith from Silent Bob 3 and then 'Just For Kicks' already released on DVD, the Lay Over as the best friend, a Mob Boss in Ghost & The Dragon, Black Eye Peas's number one music video and song Don't Funk With My Heart he also appeared in numerious commercials like the Jay Z's Nokia Black Phone', Emjoi's European shaver and then for Japan's very own mens deodorant spray Gatsby so then he came back to the states, to do the MTV's TV spot Head & Body also staring with him was Chudney Ross. WOW!

Matell's first album, entitled This Is, Whats Been Goin On, is a salute album to Marvin Gaye, Billie Holiday, TuPac, Barry White, Malcolm X and yes Jesus, it is destined too spawn a few hits in 2006 and beyond. Eastern Trees another single off the album, will make people stand and take notice. The CD includes popular dance hits like Love (A Brokeback Mountain Remix), the mid-tempo You Found Me, At Worst and the indealable titled track This Is, Whats Been Goin On. A mini tour is scheduled in 2007, Matell will begin this tour to support the new release. According to myspace fans, the single Eastern Trees is already a huge hit on the website: myspace.com/matell, with the disc just being release only two weeks prior with hits well over 1000This Is, Whats Been Goin On is shaping up to be a major hit and with that success it continues with the disc, This Is, Whats Been Goin On, selling on CD Baby and now on radio at Live365 a global internet radio, broadcasting all over the world.
