Katherine Fitch, harp, and Elisabeth Jackson, flute, formed the Jackson Fitch Duo in 2003 at the University of Western Ontario to fulfill a chamber music credit for their respective Bachelor of Music Performance degrees. They benefited from the coachings of Harpist Lori Gemmell, flutist Fiona Wilkison, and collaborative music specialist John Hess. They have continued this collaboration and now perform for weddings, receptions, and dinners in the York Region as well as the Greater Toronto Area. While they specialize in Classical repertoire they are equally at home with Mediaeval and Celtic.
Why this name?
We were named by one of our university professors who arranged a chamber music concert featuring a number of the school's chamber ensembles including our duo. As the concert was for the public outside of our university he wanted a name for us on the posters and program other than flute and harp duo, but didn't have time to check with us, so name us the Jackson Fitch Duo. He informed us of our new name the following day and said "I like it it sounds like a wine" referring to Ontario's Jackson-Triggs wines.
