-bloomsville- was first initiated in the beginning of 1995 by singer, songwriter and guitarist Janne Angelia Reiersen. The band has grown from being an almost acoustic ethnic sounding act, to a rock band using more potent guitars and basslines without loosing their ethnic raw sounding essence. Fans of -bloomsville- also tend to like band/artists such as Throwing Muses, Polly Jean Harvey, Nick Cave, Monster Magnet, The Cure, Belly, Pixies, The White Stripes, The Doors, Patti Smith, Tori Amos etc.

Why this name?
-bloomsville- started out as -bloom- in 1995. The name -bloom- was actually an accident. Janne was driving in her car with her boyfriend Thomas and tried to come up with a good name. Janne had a private brainstorm and uttered "blue", but Thomas heard "bloom" instead. Since the name bloom brings assosiatons of flowers and growing things, Janne thought it was a good name for her band because in a way a songwriters process is also a growing thing, blossoming within. The name -bloomsville- is an extension of -bloom-. Over the years there have appeared several bands called bloom, and instead of competing, the whole band aggreed that bloomsville was the natural choice. As Janne likes to say, we are no longer just one person but a whole town!
Do you play live?
Oh yes, and love it! We have played mostly in Norway where we are from, but last year we managed to get a gig in Scotland. That was great fun! Our most recent special moment was reaching the Norwegian finl in Emergenza Festival. We now hope to reach the international final in Finland.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It makes it easier to check out new music without running to the stores. True music fans would rather buy the album to get the cover and the real record, so I don't think MP3 downloading destroys anything for the artist, rather it improves sales.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes
Your influences?
The Cure, Jimi Hendrix, Monster Magnet, Patti Smith, Nick Cave, Polly Jean Harvey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, KISS etc.
Favorite spot?
John Dee, Oslo, Norway.
Equipment used:
Marshall amps, Lag and Les Paul Guitars, Yamaha bass.
