AQM is traditional Celtic instruments such as harp, fiddle and whistles woven with drum loops, electric guitar and keyboard to create a modern sound that has an ancient element running through it. 10% of every download is donated to NICIE, (the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education). They help parents establish integrated schools for Protestant and Catholic children in a school system that is otherwise 94% segregated along sectarian lines.
It's not a full-time band, but an ongoing project headed by singer/songwriter Elizabeth Pendleton. Players include producer/DJ Peter "Peas" McEvilley harpist Lori Andrews & Kathleen Keane (fiddle & whistles).
Why this name?
I love working with such a powerful and enduring feminine archetype. To this day you can travel to west of Ireland and hear her music in the cairns, stones and streams. She’s amazing.
Do you play live?
No. I’m happiest singing in groups, formally or informally. I love working in a chorus because it refreshes my awareness of harmonies But singing with a bunch of happy, drunken strangers in a pub can be equally magical.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Completely, and for the better. It’s been the single biggest force of democracy I’ve witnessed in this lifetime. It provides undreamed of opportunities for artists and music lovers. Keep clicking!!!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Never say never, but the old paradigm is dead, the machine too cumbersome and artists, with the exception of an elite handful, too under compensated in that model.
