NUTRAX - pronounced New Tracks is an Afro-Juju, Afro-Jazz,Hip-hop and RnB movement. It is a musical mosaic of rhythms, vibes and vocal-collaborations of various artists fused together and interwoven with unique beats produced by Ghost Traxx.
-----
My name is Sheik aka Ghost Traxx. My background is in Electrical Engineering with interests in Power and Control Systems. However, my passion is Music production. I would like my work to speak for itself... trying to use music as a tool and medium to help send a message of renewal, rebirth and change. I'm an up and coming self taught music producer. Currently registered as a BMI composer.
I was born in Virginia, USA to a Nigerian father and Trinidian mother. However, I grew up in the eastern part of Nigeria, West Africa from where I was instilled from early childhood with African and later Afro-Caribbean musical rhythms. My Music inspiration is deeply rooted in Afro-Juju, Jazz, Hip-hop and RnB with strong influences from the great works of the Afro juju legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Femi Anikulapo Kuti and a few hip-hop producers such as Neptunes, Swizz beats. Just like the great FELA KUTI some of my songs are written and performed in Pidgin english (Broken English) over hypnotic saxophone rhythms.
Most of my songs talk about the various ills of the politicians and law makers in Nigeria and the world at large. The words tell stories of discord, tears, blood and suffering of the masses of which I definitely identify.Trials and tribulations of the youth, the old, the patriots... "Suffering and Smiling everyday trying to survive.."
LAGOS TRAFFIC is an album of beats, rhymes and rhythms...Some say that it is a music master piece of diversity.. I worked on this project for over 2 years. It is dedicated to the sweet memory of my mum - JOAN. It is a reflection of Life's journey and a bound novel of thoughts imbibed with interwoven strands of musical notes depicting issues, life's quests, trials and joys.
Sit back and listen to a few of the tracks from the first Album from the compilation called LAGOS TRAFFIC -The Journey continues Vol 1. - all tracks composed, written and produced by Ghost Traxx at DaZone Studios Taunton, MA, USA. All instruments, drum programming and mastering also done at Dazone Studios Taunton, MA and Digital Sound Labs Arizona... It all started when the world let me get my hands on a Yamaha Motif ES6... the rest is history.
This is my story told in the universal language of MUSIC.
...LAGOS TRAFFIC - The journey continues...
Why this name?
NUTRAX - pronounced New Tracks was coined from the obvious two words NEW + TRACKS. It describes a renewed quest for originality in the music industry. A refreshed fusion of diverse cultures and norms which intertwine and are interwoven into what I call "AFRO-COOL-JAZZ". NUTRAX depicts a rebirth of a new beginning. A diverse blend of Afro-juju, hip-hop and classical renditions.. Sound Fusion

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

Favorite spot?
A couple of cities: Lagos a city of organized chaos. Much of the influence on the Afro-Cool-Jazz concept is derived from the fusion of noise, horns, go-slow and organized confusion of the traffic. This has become a norm, a way of life of he everyday Lagosian and the suffering and smiling mentality that the great FELA song about in most of his classic songs paint a vision of hope beyond the congestion and pole-holed roads. AFRO-COOL-JAZZ just like afro-juju helps to embrace this vision and bring it to reality through music.
