KDB3 is a solo studio entity. Doug Bowers is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter who writes, records and produces music during domestic downtime. He has gigged professionally since 1973 in a variety of both secular and Christian rock bands. He is a member of the praise band at Immanuel Anglican Church in Destin Florida.
Why this name?
They are my initials: Karl Douglas Bowers, III
Do you play live?
I gave up playing live (outside of church) when hurricaine Ivan blew the Pensacola Beach Pavillion away. The band I was in was doing concerts there. I didn't want to play the bar scene anymore. I'm content with the church gig.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It definately threw the major labels for a loop. I love the idea of posting a song on the web and having someone on the other side of the planet contact me and tell me they dug it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No!
Band History:
I started playing tough watering holes around Morgantown, WV in 1973. Moved to Florida in 1982 and continued to gig with a variety of great players. I started writing and recording as KDB3 around 1988.
Your influences?
I'm a total proghead. Early Genesis, Yes, Gentle Giant, PFM, Flash, Focus, Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, Glass Hammer, and Echolyn are among my favorites.
Favorite spot?
The deck next to the dock in my back yard.
Equipment used:
Ensoniq SQ2 workstation. Vestax hard disk recorder. Tascam DAT. A variety of Ensoniq and Alesis processors. Taylor, Yamaha and Seagull guitars. Mason & Hamlin grand piano. The usual stuff.
