I think that, overall, mp3's have changed the way today's listeners hear the music, through reduced sound quality to allow for smaller downloadable files. Overall, it allows for greater exposure to more music, but then again, it allows for too much piracy. As a songwriter hoping to gain royalties one day, I feel that illegal file-sharing is unfair to me, and am definitely for paid mp3 downloads, though as a professional recording engineer, I once again find the comparitively low quality of the files relatively unsatisfactory. This is the age of ever-improving digital recording technology, yet we're listening to 192K files???

I have been writing songs since 2001. I am constantly writing new material, and usually take it a song at a time. I have no notebooks full of lyrics, instead taking the approach of writing a song from start to finish based on some sort of inspiration, before moving on to the next.

I honestly cannot place my music, or my influences. I am self-taught on guitar, drums, and bass (my earlier songs actually have drums and bass from a drum machine, while I was learning the real instruments), and play by feel and sound, without knowing my way around these instruments from a music-theory perspective. I know my way around them by what sounds good, but have no clue where to find specific chords/notes/whatever. I play guitar and bass in my lap, Jeff Healy style.
