How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well, for indie artists like myself, it's a wonderful way to self-promote globally without having a major distribution record deal or even a band! In the paleo, pre-internet days, a band and a lot of touring was essential to getting heard. With the internet, artists have new options as to how they want to create a fanbase and get mass exposure.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Hell yah! It seems to me that it's much more difficult to get signed now than five or ten years ago. Now this so-called "Demo" needs to be damn near professional (which usually requires studio time, no more cheesy cassettes) and a good fan base must already be established along with a dynamite press kit. What happened to the Joplin days?
Band History:
"Atmospheric...haunting...strangely POWERFUL" are words that have been used to describe this Jersey girl's self-titled debut EP.
Janis describes her music as edgy, mood driven Rock with Pop appeal. She pulls no punches either when addressing the good, the bad and the downright ugly of relationships.
Fans have compared her vocal sound to Blondie, PJ Harvey, No Doubt, Alanis Morissette and Patti Smith. Other musical influences include Sinead O'Connor, Janis Joplin, and Tori Amos.
Her collaboration with Blues guitarist/producer Shaheed Shabazz started in January 2000 after she outgrew a friend's basement four-track studio. The pair worked together for three years.
The results: a five song EP displaying a dynamic range of musical styles and production techniques without ever leaving the Rock world. Musically Janis jumps from raw catchy rock tunes to polished sultry ballads, effortlessly bringing lo-fi and hi-fi tones in and out of the mix.
Janis is currently seeking new collaborators to flesh out some new tunes.
