BlackLab Records is a record label which seek to teach the youths about conciousness, livity and a lot of isuues concerning life through music.
Why this name?
As African we realise that most of our fellow black africans are among the poorest & unmotivated people in the world. So through music we would want to uplift them. So as BlackLab we are a moving laboratory to create music for these people and anyone else who fing meaning in our music.
Do you play live?
we use backtracks in prfoming but the best moment was when we premiered Luckspin compilation, it was big, fireworks all-over
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
the internet has made it faster and simpler for music to reach every part of the earth, thus making artist internationally quicker. And for this reason people are driven into the industry, making it bigger.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Thats what we all striving for, a major label contract knocking at our door.
Band History:
We started as DJs and MCs in Zimbabwean streets, parties and clubs. BlackLab back then had only two members, Bonslag & Major C.This was in the early 90s, and we were still in primary school. We stopped djing when we were going secondary school, coz at this time most of us were going to boarding schools hence we could not be together.BlackLab came back in the scene in June 2005, bigger, with more artists and a riddim driven compilation called "Luckspin Riddim". And in less than a year we had done collaborations with international groups like ABRA and a lot of collaborations with big Zimbabwean artists.
Your influences?
every kind of music is influence but if we are to talk of names, we have Bob Marley, Tupac, Sean Paul, Capleton
