Sand Machine’s music has been noted by listeners for its raw energy. The
elements of the sound are basic: drums-bass-2 guitars with a lot of vocal
harmony; but somehow it is regularly called "different". Perhaps because the
emphasis is on writing lyrically and musically strong songs with a sometimes
blatant disregard for what is the latest musical fashion. Sand Machine songs
are written by twin brothers Jay and Dave Hepburn, and the influence of 60’s
rock is evident but not pervasive enough to label the band a throwback. The
demographic that Sand Machine has appealed to has been strangely diverse.
