My name is Dale Harper. I am a Christian singer /songwriter from southern West Virginia. I spent most of my life playing country music and southern rock in bars and clubs in the Charleston WV area, however in 1996 I gave my heart to Christ and my life was changed forever.
Why this name?
It's my name.
Do you play live?
I normally play at area churches and local events, but I am looking to expand my audience.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think the internet is awesome for the music industry because it enables me to get my music and/or CD out to many more people than I could ever reach on my own.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
A recording contract is my lifelong dream. I would sign in a heartbeat if the opportunity arose.
Band History:
I was born in South Charleston, WV in September 1966. My father, Delbert Harper (1935-1982), began teaching me to play guitar when I was eight years old. Unfortunately when I was fifteen my dad died at age 47 as a result of a massive heart attack. My mother, Ella Harper (1947-1998), devastated by this disastrous event, lost all control over me. My life lacked any sense of direction at this point and I fell victim to all the lusts and desires the world had to offer.
Fortunately for all of us, when we raise our children in the ways of the Lord, we have a promise (Proverbs - Chapter 22:6). I am so thankful for that promise, because my mother was able to see her “baby boy” (which she so affectionately called me) give his heart to Christ before she died in June of 1998 from cancer at age 51.
September 15, 1996 my wife Barb and I gave our hearts to Christ at Winfield Baptist Church, Winfield, WV. I am now the praise and worship leader at this same church and can’t imagine how I survived almost 30 years without Jesus in my life. We have two sons, Jeffrey (21) and Jacob (7), who are both born again also. My life is good. My wife and kids are the air I breathe and they provide me with all the support I could ever ask for.
My desire is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ wherever he will allow me to do so. The only way I know to do this is through song. Fame, fortune and glory have never been a goal of mine. I just want to sing, to make a joyful noise unto the Lord, whenever and wherever I can.
