Renwick Story

Renwick Story plans on making a tremendous splash into the very aggressive and very famed Chicago scene. We feature three ex-members of Broken Freedom (Aaron Dahl, Josh Aldis, and BJ Kavanaugh), the very energetic Fred Cortright, and the amazingly vocal and charismatic Danny Olavarria fresh to the Chicago scene from Florida.
Realizing the struggles and hardship of entering the talent pool of Chicago and the Chicagoland suburbs, we plan on nothing short of creating an explosion that will rattle the scene to its very foundation, with a fresh sound, a new E.P., and exhaustingly intense live performances. We bring a sound that will take any willing listener to new levels and unexpected encounters. Meshing influences of different taste and progession to a marriage uncharacterized by a trend or a fad.
For us, the powerful sinister shredding guitars of metal and melodic hardcore meets the catchy fast rhythmatic riffs of punkrock yet mixed with a touch of effects of elegance, subtleness, and the spontaneity of progressive rock. In our rhythm section we combine the powerful in your face bass sound of alternative and hardcore with smooth fills and the melodically funky basslines of jazz to create a bass that is just simply unique. Our drums provide the glue in which all the influenced styles fit prefectly to create the freshness of what we offer. Here BJ combines the intensity of hardcore with the speed of punkrock however, adding the unique rhythms of jazz, funk, progressive, and alternative to his already vigorous style of providing the beats. Finally comes our vocals in which Danny brings his blues influenced talents with the emotional rhythm followed by a modest amount of screams and a series of catchy background vocals created as a band performing chants and harmonies made famous by the roots of punkrock.

Why this name?
For those who don't know, we've currently decided to change our name from Broken Freedom to Renwick Story.
The reason for the name change, is because with the departure of Mando and the addition of Danny and Fred, we truly felt like a different band. The three remaining members of Broken Freedom (Aaron, Josh, and BJ) have matured greatly as musicians as well as their aproach to writing. Added with the new styles and influences that Danny and Fred brings, the band progressed with a new sound and a new atmosphere, completed with great inspiration, goals, and expectations. The band as a whole, decided it was only right to change the name for the band itself has changed dramatically. Broken Freedom will only have fond memories of Mando Martinez, Aaron Dahl, Josh Aldis, and BJ Kavanaugh. None of the four would trade that experience in for the world. We can only hope you will like Renwick Story just as much, if not more, as you enjoyed Broken Freedom.
Now to tell the story of why Renwick Story has become our name. Let me start out by saying how hard, difficult, and frustrating of a process it was. We've literally spent months on figuring out a new identity. After much deliberation, we've decided to aim for something very honest. Now what can be more honest that our roots and inspiration. Most of our local fans will understand this ut in our not-so-bad-but-not-so-great-town of Plainfield there was this place called the American Legion. And almost every other Friday night, shows would be played there. Basically during the early days, the most common bands were Article 57 and Safety Net. Before Aaron, Fred, Josh, and BJ ever known each other as hole, these shows were playing and the four would attend. Words cannot express the atmosphere or the feeling that you would get as you spectate. That was our inspiration. We wanted that. Seeing our friends and classmates doing what they loved sparked all of us to move forward and become even more passionate with our goals. Before we even knew it, our goals was the same, in music. Each of them just wanted to at least one day perform on the stage of the American Legion hall. There was no Fireside Bowl, no Bottom Lounge, no Metro, no House of Blues. To them there was only the Legion. Nothing could be greater. Though the American Legion still stands today, it no longer houses the atmosphere of the purest shows ever performed. The halls remain silent to music. The American Legion Hall rests on the side of Renwick Road. We did not want to be called just Renwick Road. So we added story. We feel that in all of us, our inspiration, our roots, have an ongoing story to tell. Our new name, Renwick Story, will remind us through every obstacle of what we're about and why we continue to sacrafice to chase our passion, there is nothing else in the world that will matter. Even Danny had his own "Renwick Story" in Florida that drove him to music. What drives anyone to go out and chase their passion to perform or create anything they love, is their "Renwick Story". We hope this would put some light on the name for the people who were awesome enough to wonder about it. I can only hope it makes sense and you will enjoy our music more than ever. Thanks again so much to you all!
