News... hmmm... Summer is over. I spent a lot of time fishing with my kid. Now school started and I'm working, so it's hard to fit in time for the fun stuff, like music. Working on it though.

Well let's see. I have been playing acoustic guitar for 12 years, or playing "at" it. You decide. Been singing since I learned how to talk. Just finished competing in WCOPA 2010 in LA and it was so neat playing worship songs with other countries and Trinidad! Shout to Jessie and the others in Trinidad- you guys are awesome!
Why this name?
It's just the name my Mama gave me.
Do you play live?
I was on the worship team and hope to get back to that sometime. I miss the simplicity. I want to write some more. Special moments? Wow, life has been really sifting me lately, so... special moments ... I have so many of them. I can only think of Ruth and how she put oil on her head before she went down to go see Boaz. There's a story in that, but let's just say that it has something to do with my wedding day. Also special moments included watching my kid hold her own as a performer against adults and bring in 9 medals at WCOPA... that''s a big one for me. LOL Playing guitar and singing worship songs by the campfire at my honey's house. That's a very special moment, too, and when friends come over from church, it's even better!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Music is more easily accessed, for free, which I don't mind. Power to the po' people! If you want to email me, I would be glad to send a song along for nonprofit use, like if you want to do it at church, or whatever. I'm still uncomfortable with making money off of God's music, but then, I am not as naive or altruistic as I used to be, and I figure I will use what God gave me and see what comes out of it and pray that I stay true. God would do what He plans for a song anyways, and it's HIS music, not mine. I like it that you can look at all different genres and connect with other musicians via the internet, without having to go to a bar to hear live music or whatever. There is SO much talent on the internet! I go to a Yahoo chat room, (Christian chat 29) once in a while and some folks just sing along with a CD, and some play instruments and sing, and some make my cat run away, but... it's all in fun. Alot of these folks are regulars from the former user chat room Christian Singles 40+ on Yahoo. So anyways, it's really cool to hear all the different talent singing on the mic, and when the naysayers and trouble makers and bots aren't causing trouble, there is some actual really nice worship in that place.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would have a lawyer and my Daddy look it over first. Relocation and money out of my pocket is a MAJOR issue here. I have a kid. My first priority is to be her mama. The music is just fun and worship for me. It would be nice to support my habit, I guess. I'm open. Wherever God takes me is where I'll go. Don't care to be rich or famous, in fact, I prefer not to get all commercialized. I just wanna play for God and play for my kid. If other people happen to join in worship with me, well... the more the merrier. As far as selling my CD's- well... I will go where God leads me and put feelers out to help figure out where that leading is. Paying the bills and doing what I love are always nice, and it would be nice to do both at the same time. 'Nuff said.

Your influences?
My musical influences? My Mama. She taught me to play acoustic guitar in high school. My high school choir teacher, Mr. McKenzie-Sullivan. My kid is now in his school. That's so funny! Anything with black people singing. No racial slander meant, I just love their music. Black full gospel especially. Love mass choirs, love Whitney Houston, Cece Winans, Boys II Men, Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, Georgia Mass Choir, anything from Sister Act and Sister Act II- MAN I love that soundtrack! I love all genres of music, from the stuff listed above, to punk, ska, Satriani, jazz (yes, even jazz... although I hate to admit it), country, country gospel, hard rock, classic rock, oldies but goodies (I still got some dusty records of Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Patsy Cline under my bed), contemporary Christian, alternative Christian, Casting Crowns... There isn't much I DON'T like, but because I love Jesus and want to stay close to Him... I stick to Christian stuff whenever possible. I like the other stuff, but it reminds me of that "old" life and gets me fired up and I wanna go dancing or something and... I just need to shut that down so... we stay w the Christian stuff and keep my eyes on GOD, not the world. That's the plan, anyways. LOL
Favorite spot?
In the woods, at a campfire, playin' guitar, or hanging out by a river or the beach, just goofing off or fishing for salmon/trout/crawdads/anything that moves..
It's also a blast to get together with other musicians and sing and play together in Christian songs.
I guess I prefer nature to malls these days, but I can hang out just about anywhere, depending on what's going on in life. The weather is turning now, so it's probably going to be the malls now (ick), but this summer me and my kiddo spent a LOT of time on the water fishing and playing in a rowboat or paddle boat.

Anything else...?
Drop me a line if you'd like to play sometime, that would be fun. Got any advice on selling songs as a songwriter? Do's or not to do's? For instance, does a person HAVE to tour and play gigs to promote their music if they just want to be a songwriter and stay in the background????
