Why this name?
We were basically bouncing from one name to another until Black Spadez mentioned 4th suspect(And from there it kinda stuck.)
4th Suspect is The Pillar And the Epitome of dedication. The Sole persistance of every one close to us trying to succeed in this business. It Encompasses 4 main members...and a branch of other artists/Groups... The Camp symbolizes everyone who's ever had to struggle out there... that has no choice that can't change and doesn't want to...because no matter what he does he'll always be viewed as The usual suspect untill the four horsemen snatch his spirit from his body....not to say that he doesn't want to better himself but he has a broader perspective on reality.... We Keep it Real Greasy Like the inside of ya kids fitted......but don't get it twisted we businessmen to the finish.....
Do you play live?
Well We're On the Come Up we've met alot of ppl, got alot of different responses...We still haven't had that defining moment in our careers yet, but hard work and motivation embodies our energy...however, we have performed small gigs...but nothing major yet... And again It's just a great thing, meeting new ppl, other artist and producers. We use them as sources of inspiration.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
well first and foremost... without it we wouldn't be where we are today....The internet is vital to many underground or aspiring artist. It allows an avenue for listeners around the world to witness their music and work. It allows them to strive for their dreams while outlitting music worldwide. But it's also demeritting main stream artist cause ppl download their songs and albums for free......so artist are losing money. It really is a double edge sword either way u look at it.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If da situation was right and we'd have creative control ova our music then absolutely.
Band History:
4th Suspect consist of 5 members officialy, but as a CREW it embodies legion of solders! official members are Black Spadez, ProlificStylez, Jay Wess, phenomenal,as well as Gravity. The group would musicaly come together during our sucession into high school but the bonds and friendships with one another were garnered long before. Kindergarten at p.s.207 west 232nd, would mark the beginning of mine and spadez friendship. we spent the year there known as the little twin terrors getting into trouble for various matters, some not recollected others to unbefitting to speak of. This would continue as we entered p.s.7. There we would continue to grow as young kids rebelling against authority forcing the school to try and expel us for numerous matters undisclosed. Fights, trouble, misdeeds would dictate our everyday lives. Throughtout all the years we stayed bestfriends but trouble problems continued to haunt at us. Graduating from p.s.7 was the most thrilling time for us both but it also weighed on us with mix emotions we would be split up, sent to difrent middle schools, away from our friends. My scores were relatively good throughout elementary and citywide test came back remarkably high, there fore I was sent to M.S.141 a school in wealthy populated riverdale, on the same token Joseph was also sent to Riverdale because of his High scores on his city wide test. Riverdale would be our biggest challenge as far as meeting completely new people in a completely new area. It reality it was a breeze right off the bat as we both were put in the same class in 6th grade meeting and became friends with many of the guys in the class (the same guys who consist of our close friends today). Sean, Eric, chavon, ect. as we graduated each year, each year would bring a new set of friends in the fold while blending the old ones as well in the faction. Spadez would befriend Phenomenal 7th grade while I befriended JayWess and Jaywess befriending gravity. Ultimately we five became a tight knit and eventually decided to form a group during our first year at riverdale/kingsbridge academy (high school). Spadez already rhyming on his own since junior high recruited phenomenal to be in the group. In the only class we had he would distract me into writing rhymez during lesson (it was literature class no less). Having never attempted to write rhymez I eventually gave in and began, and so 4th suspect began. JayWess joined 10th grade when he actively began writing rhymez daily. An soon after that da freestylin activist Gravity joined up. Out of the five I was probably the most distracted seeing as I began cutting school on the often cutting 3 to 4 days a week. This began for me a little after I entered high school, spending the days I did cut going to small recording studios with my cousin and his friends or going on my own with Spadez when he cut. Our grades suffered but we always managed to pass (ala summer school) until the middle of 11th grade when I left school permanently (I don't endorse younger kids to do so as it was idiotic and immature) due to bad grades and consistent bad behavior. Since then Phenomenal and Spadez have gone on to nearly graduating, Jaywess moved to virginia but will graduate and Gravity graduated. After a few months off I wised up. Matured enough where I got my act together, got my GED, enrolled in community college hoping to next year transer to albany or syracuse, or fordham, work as a security officer (making 17 an hour for 10 hours, 4 days a week). And oh yea started producing on the side..!
Your influences?
preferably alot of old skool snd 90's hip-hop. like before and during the times of illmatic, reasonable doubt, and strictly for my niggaz, with artists like Kool G rap, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul, NWA, MC Shan, KRS-ONE (God MC), Rakim, 2pac, B.I.G., Nas (Greatest Rapper Alive), Common, Talib Kweli, The Roots, Big Pun, Big L, Wu-Tang, The aftermath crew... Jay-z, Kanye west, Sigel, Diplomats, Cassidy and southern rappers such as ludacris, T.I. & Young Jeezy.
while most of us are into old school hiphop, as well as 70's funk and soul, (curtis mayfield, War, Ohio Players, Ewf, Chi-lites, Ojays and some jazz sh*** too) Some members of 4th suspect are more into the 3-g's...gully, gritty, gangsta.
but indefinately we respect creative artists...and ppl who have a deep love for music!
