Trepain is an electronic music concept by Roberto L. Aloi featuring drum 'n bass, gabber, and experimental music.
Why this name?
I have always been fascinated by "Trepanation" which is the oldest known surgical procedure practiced by mankind involving the drilling of a hole in the human skull. A trepan is the tool for drilling.
Do you play live?
I have played live many times. My first show was at a large rave in Miami back in the early 90s. My music partner was MCing on the microphone and kept turning around to signal me to raise the volume. I raised it a little too much and needless to say it made the worst sound and the person in charge of the mixing equipment was screaming that we blew a channel on his amp.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think when you consider artists make their real money touring and on merchandising, mp3s really only hurt the artists who are too lazy to tour.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes
Band History:
Trepain (a.k.a Tiamat/Roberto L. Aloi) began producing in 1991 with fellow producer "Fury".
The majority of his early work consisted of rave,
break beat techno, and house music. After several years he began producing industrial, punk, ambient, and was even a member of a thrash band using his electronic programming prowess to provide an industrial sound coupled with traditional instruments.
In the mid 90s DJ Fury, original music partner and long time friend, had introduced him to jungle and the many variations that were part of the genre. "I was immediately attracted to everything jungle offered. Especially tech-step and anything else that sounded somewhat industrial in nature."
In 1998, DJ Fury welcomed Trepain into The Soul Providers. The Soul Providers is a crew consisting of the most talented and ambitious DJs, producers, and visual artists from around the World.
