Our band is known as Solace and consists of Joe Ryan (vocals), Kyle Moon (guitar/vocals), Ben Williamson (drums), and Brandon Coots (guitar/vocals). As of now, we play acoustic material when playing live. We have quite a loyal following here in Central Kentucky and we're looking to take over the world with our infectious, feel-good music. We've also recorded many songs using a dorm-room computer equipped with Adobe Audition so they're not the best quality but they're pretty damn good!
Why this name?
It all started a few years back when the two guitarists of the group were playing gigs just for fun and realized that we needed a catchy name that reflected our attitude and perspective on music and, in that case, life. So, through the encouragement of Kyle Moon's father, an English professor, we chose the name Solace. Later on, and many gigs later we realize that Solace has been used by numerous others so we changed to The Rhumors. Eventually switching our name back to Solace.
Do you play live?
Yes, we currently play Buddha's, Hurricanes, The Whiskey, The Oasis, campus events at Eastern Kentucky University, as well as various tv spots on Studio B
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It definitely makes it more available to many different sources; however, it also allows for more competition as well as others who may not have the driving ambition as real musicians might....just some internet junkie looking to make something.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Does a dog have an ass?
Band History:
It began with many nights in Kentucky, playing guitar because there wasn't much else to do. Kyle Moon and Brandon Coots had known each other through high school and always dreamed of becoming bigger than the Beatles, whom they idolized for the songwriting genius. Once they both moved to away to college, they decided to start a band which came to be known as Solace. As stated earlier, afraid of legal infringements if they were to become famous...they changed their name to The Rhumors. The Rhumors were short-lived, the group dis-banded after one member became a music teacher, and the other went missing and to this day is still not found. Few years down the road, Kyle and Brandon, still playing music for pure enjoyment, come across Joe Ryan...a trained vocalist/songwriter, in college. After playing many gigs together and after building a loyal following, the three decided to go with their gut instinct and use the name Solace. Later, Solace was reunited with longtime childhood friend Ben Williamson who rocks the drums and the rest is history!
