I've been a Blues/Roots based guitarist for over 35 years, starting at about age 5. I've spent a number of years playing for the cruise industry for both Norwegian Cruise Lines, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. I've had the pleasure of opening shows for artists such as Buddy Guy, Kansas, Corey Stevens, and Peter "Madcat" Ruth and Sherry Kane. I have done occasional session work since about 1984.
Why this name?
Born with it.
Do you play live?
After the loss of my wife, I've spent the past few years staying close to home with the kids. Now I'm beginning to get out and gig more often, and loving it like never before. I'm currently taking gigs as both a Blues artist, and also playing a mix of oldies, and various requests. I'm also doing much more solo acoustic guitar work than ever before. I'm enjoying it as never before!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well it certainly gives me the opportunity to get this stuff out before the public - for better or worse.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Major labels? Are they still around?
Band History:
I've been playing guitar since about 1966. I played in my mother's Pentecostal church from ages 9 to 17. I started playing in bar bands at 17. In 1988 I joined a variety band that worked resorts all over the world, and also worked on cruise ships for NCL, and RCCL. In 1994 I joined the "Blue Steel" blues band, who then changed their name to the "Buick City Blues Band". I've continued with that band on and off since that time, and also my own projects.
Your influences?
Blues, and Blues related music including: Blues/Rock, Country Blues, Rockabilly, Western Swing, pre-bebop Jazz, and Rock up until the early 70's.
Favorite spot?
Ummmmmmmm....
Equipment used:
Fender Telecasters, 69 Fender Deluxe Reverb amp. 73 Pro Reverb amp, B1uesboy 5F1 based amp, various other tube amps, a 1934 Martin 0-17, a few Ovation acoustics, an elcheapo, no-name bass, and most recently a TASCAM DP-01, which I love.
Anything else...?
Although I'm known as a blues player, I experiment with other forms as well. I plan to include some of these experiments on this page.
