Whether it’s a fiery delta blues number or one of his often personal original tunes, West Virginia native Joe Landes delivers, plain and simple, the blues. Armed with a steel-bodied resonator guitar, a bottleneck slide, and a pair of stomping shoes, Joe attacks each song with a sheer ferocity that grabs the attention of the audience and doesn’t let go. He describes his sound as “guitar-slapping, foot-stomping, traditional blues,” and he isn’t far from the truth. This is definitely music you can dance to and enjoy.
Coming from a family of musicians, Joe himself picked up guitar at age 14 and hasn’t been able to put it down since. He cites the old delta blues masters (Son House, Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, Bukka White, to name just a few) as having the biggest impact on him, along with hints of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and other classic country greats that were introduced to him by his grandfather (a country/gospel musician himself).
A few of his career highlights include being twice invited to play in Clarksville, Tennessee for their annual Riverfest and other events, opening for Jim McCarty (guitarist for Bob Seger and for Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels) & Mystery Train at the Winchester in Lakewood, and being invited to play at the 2007 Mahoning River Blues Festival in Youngstown.
Joe currently resides in Lakewood, OH, with his wife, Bridget, three cats, and a rotating cast of foster felines. He can be found playing various shows throughout the Northeast Ohio area and beyond. He also serves as guitarist for the group Oliver Buck & The New Madrids. When not playing music, Joe divides his time between enjoying video games, creating culinary disasters in the kitchen, medicating foster kittens, and preparing for the zombie apocalypse.
