Why this name?
Boxy was just a stupid nickname given to me by my friends. They don't call me it all the time but my friend made me up a music myspace (www.myspace.com/boxymusic) and he put me in as Boxy and it just stuck.
Do you play live?
I played at an open mic night at The Mixing Rooms in Glasgow. It was my first time playing and it went really well I thought, although I forgot my lines! I'll hopefully be playing at an open mic night at Cobar soon.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think that it's made it harder to sell CD's but it helps small, local bands get their music out there.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Definately but I would be careful cause I don't want to end up getting messed about just cause I didn't read the contract properly or anything.
Band History:
I started making music with this programme called Ejay, which is kind of like samples that you just build up into a song. At that point music wasn't really a big part of my life. My first proper song that i wrote myself was round about first year in High School when I started teaching myself guitar. We were asked in my music class to write a song and I knew about 3 chords and ended up writing my first song "Somebody Told Me" (before The Killers) and I've been writing ever since.
Your influences?
My influences are probably Brand New and Radiohead but my main influence is just everyday experience. I write about what I know and how I feel. My songs are like a kind of public diary that's open for interpretation.
Favorite spot?
Cobar definately. The staff are great and the place has just got an all round friendly feel to it.
Equipment used:
I usually use an Eko ranger 6 acoustic guitar but sometimes use a Westwood Les Paul style. For recording it's just my computer and a microphone.
