Paul Jeffery
NEWS   All 10 original tracks from my new album, now online here! (songs 1-10)
UK-based male singer-songwriter. Piano and guitar-driven songs in the Rock/Acoustic/A.C. genre.
Why this name?
It's my real name, just please note the correct spelling otherwise the weblinks won't work! It's JEFFERY, not REY at the end and there's no S , G or IES. Also, whilst Jeffery can be a first name, this is not the case here.
I used to hate my name and wanted to change it for stage purposes but have gradually grown to like it, it's as good as any other name so why change it.
I like it so much now that I've called my band...THE PAUL JEFFERY BAND. I'm rubbish at thinking of band names anyway.
Do you play live?
Yes, about 4 times a week at the moment. That includes solo gigs, band gigs and cover band gigs with an 8-piece soul band. Mainly local, which means lots in Leeds, Huddersfield, Bradford, Halifax and Wakefield area. I'd like to do more in Sheffield and Manchester, and maybe London if my nerves can stand it.
I still like it just as much as recording songs, and it's still the best way to promote my material, people prefer to see the raw energy of a live show, you can't re-create that on the internet.
I've done about 1000 gigs, so it's hard to say which are special moments. I'll just say my favourite gig is still the same one, April 18 1995.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's completely changed it. Now you don't need a record deal to sell records. This has numerous advantages to artists, the main one being there's no middle man-and no-one other than REAL people to tell you if you're any good. Why should my music survive or die on one person's opinion? Now I can go direct to the people and let them decide.
The other big advantage is the ability to link to people abroad, without the need to tour or secure airplay.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes I would but I'm not banking on it happening. There's less and less deals around and virtually none that allow an artist to 'grow', it's all bang or bust on the first single or album. I still think there are genuine label people out there who care, but I'm happy selling directly at the moment.
