Why this name?
At the time, I needed to separate my solo project from the band I was in, as well as my 9-5. I always thought girls with guy names was cool, so I tried a few on. Alex seemed to fit.
Do you play live?
I love playing with a band, there is no other rush like it. When you put your heart and soul in to a project and show it to someone, it's the greatest feeling in the world for them to come back and tell you that it really meant something to them.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think the internet is a blessing and a curse for the music industry. It's great for fans because you can get anything you want, anytime you want it. It's also excellent for the indie musician because it's so easy to get your music out there. However, it is a huge detriment to anyone who has built their business dependent on physical merchandise.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Not sure. I'm not excited about going into any kind of huge debt; however it would be nice to have all the perks that go along with major label backing.
Band History:
My first band was Eleven 69. A friend of mine who was putting together a band came to me one day, handed me a guitar, and started teaching me a song he wrote. Shortly after that, I was bringing him songs I had written. Next thing I know I'm in the band. We played in Yakima, WA for 4 years, recorded 2 albums, and had a lot of fun.
Your influences?
My musical influences include everything from Tool to Sarah McLaughlan. Michelle Branch, Anna Nalick, Indigo Girls, Incubus, Matchbox 20, to name a few.
