Bed Of Nails
NEWS
We've just added an old bluesy/spacy improv of Robbie's from several years back. It's called 'Skank'. We've also just added an old song that nobody has ever heard, Unwound Up. It's about 7 years old so why not let it out? A little on the retarded side but that's what's fun about exploration into new areas. Sometimes you stumble upon diamonds in the rough, sometimes you just stumble. But when we started this project we gave ourselves 'permission to suck' so we could pursue all kinds of ideas without getting in too much of a rut. Check out our new demo 'Tell The World Today'. It has a feeling like one of the 'stop the war' songs of the 60s but with a modern treatment. It is the first part of a longer composition but this is the first taste. We hope you enjoy it.

Bed Of Nails is powered by the guitars of Robbie Atkins. Robbie also plays most other instruments (yes, he is a multitasking MoFo) and does much of the production. Alan Dean writes the lyrics and does primary vocal duties as well as co-producing. Our musical tastes are quite diverse, including Jeff Beck, Led Zeppelin, Joe Satriani, Kiss, Ozzy, and on to Gabriel, King Crimson, Yes, Rush, Supertramp and Genesis. Our newest two songs are Crack Your Skull and Tell The World Today, two entirely different types of songs. Crack Your Skull, an angry, aggressive song about our pressurized, stressed modern world where people go through their daily lives on the edge and ready to snap at the least provocation. Tell The World Today is a modern 'save the world' type song akin to the protest songs of the 60s but with a minimalist electronica backing. Tell The World Today is actually an intro to a longer song that has not yet been completed but here is a taste of the whole composition. These two songs address a society on the brink from two completely different perspectives, one hopeful and engaged in finding a solution and one a desperate and defeated and angry view. Enjoy.
Why this name?
It occured to us that all of our songs were about betrayal, love gone wrong or some combination of those conditions. So Bed Of Nails seemed to be a fitting name, as it is an instrument of torture, somewhat like love gone bad.
Do you play live?
We have not played any live dates as yet.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet allows bands with limited resources to reach a large audience. This allows bands that otherwise might be deemed 'not mainstream enough' by record company execs, to develop a following and to promote themselves.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Is this a trick question?
Your influences?
Robbie was heavily influenced by Randy Rhodes, KISS, Satriani and most of the major shredders. He also enjoys bluegrass, blues, jazz and most anything that is played well. Robbie just loves music. Alan was mostly influenced by English Prog Rock bands, synth bands, Brian Eno and many of the heavy rock bands of the 70s and 80s. Alan just loves music too. Yippie!
Anything else...?
