K Ryan has been involved in music from early childhood.
Has performed music from a very diverse list of Genre's, including, blues, country, gospel, bluegrass, Pop, Old rock & roll, latin, and even classical. His passion being lyrics, he began to write songs around the age of 16 and continues to write songs in a number of genre. " I Love all kinds of music, and I sing many different styles, but I think more often than not, my songs can be placed in one of three categories, Country, Blues, or Gospel, or a combination of the three.
Why this name?
My name is more common that I realized! So I decided to use first Initial and middle name. I didn't want to cause any confusion with other artists. I'm not particular with what I'm called (within reason) so long as you call me for supper.
Do you play live?
I play live alot, mostly local. I play alot of benefits, and other events that I get invited to sing for. I love singing. My most memorable "gig" was at my own wedding. I had written a song "Heaven on Earth"(not the current version on file) for my wife the night before, and sang it to her, as we stood before the crowd. It was a powerful moment, i'll always remember it.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has really expanded the possibilities for folks like myself, who have limited resources. It allows me to get my music out to people that otherwise I couldn't reach. It's been a huge boost for me just getting the feedback from listeners. It lets me know what i'm doing right, or wrong and what I can do to make my songs more enjoyable.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I don't think I have the "flare" or the style to really attract a major label, but if there were an interest, I would definitely talk with them yes.
Your influences?
The Spirit within, Ralph Stanley, Vince Gill, Righteous Brothers, Otis Redding, Roy Orbison and any singer that ever put his heart and soul into his singing.
Favorite spot?
Devil's Lake North Dakota. It's beautiful there, and the fishing is awesome too!
Equipment used:
When I perform solo (usually the case) I carry along my flat top. My goal is to connect through the lyrics of a song, so I don't focus on instruments. If i'm with a group I sometimes don't play an instrument at all.
Anything else...?
Thank God for each day, live and love for today. We aren't promised tomorrow.
