COP GRIOT SOUL: CHICKENSCRATCH AND CALLIGRAPHY! Only $5: it's half writtens, and half freestyles. Ill production, etc.. quality listening experience.
The Griot consists of Beantown's Sidik Fofana (just Sidik), Harlem's Jude Somefun (Young Flight), Baltimore's Ben Becker (Urben), Houston's Brook Griffin (Brizz), and Maryland's Noah Barnes (Negus). We are more of a social organization than a musical group, but we do have nightly cyphas, and we talk smooth.. so that counts for something. Think of a frat made up of 5 good-lookin dudes, and then subtract the arrogance. (That pic lacks Brook and must be updated). We run Columbia University (though it doesn't know it).

Why this name?
We didn't choose this name. It chose us.
Do you play live?
Yes.. We've laced some open mics, blessed our album release party with an on-the-spot improvized music video of "Griot Stroll," and we freestyle at random median strips with light poles that have accessible electrical sockets for the boombox (weather permitting).
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Blah blah blah
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course.. it's been hard to turn them down so far.. but we're just trying to build up our market value first.

Your influences?
We vary in our tastes in groups, genres, girls, etc. "Eclectic" is the word; but we embrace our differences - it's the key component to our on and off-stage chemistry.
Favorite spot?
Wherever we are is that spot. But for the time being, we reside on Broadway 11.
Equipment used:
Lungs, vocal chords, ears... teeth, salivary glands, esophagus, the rest of the digestive system (we do chew emcees after all)
Anything else...?
The Griot has put out its second album, Griot Soul: Chickenscratch and Calligraphy. It's ill - many more hours went into its production compared to the last one. The Griot's debut freestyle album, QUARTERS FOR LAUNDRY is still of course for sale ($3) near you - if you attend Columbia.
