HipGnosis has been producing electronic music for almost 7 years under the name siriusrising, venturing into the world of hip hop within the last 2. You can check out my popular IDM tracks at http://download.com/sirius23. I'm taking a different approach to making music, looking for hot beats, but not your typical fare. Just listen to find out what hip hop's been looking for.
Why this name?
HipGnosis refers to the hypnotic quality my songs have and to the fact that I study Gnosticism.
Do you play live?
i played a series of shows in the summer of 2007 with live rappers over prerecorded and sometimes live beats. it was amazing and nerve-wracking at the same time. i loved it.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
the internet has changed every industry and will continue to do so until the fall of capitalism. i think that mp3s and file-sharing are a beautiful thing. they provide a means of promotion for unsigned artists as well as just generally increasing the universal good, by "sharing the good word". there is no better feeling for me (besides making musick) than discovering a new artist. my goal is to one day own a record label and spend all my time finding unsigned talent.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would probably not sign with a major label, no. If it was a distribution-only deal, i would consider it, as i do all recording, production, mixing, and mastering on everything. in short, i'm a PRODUCER, not just a beat-maker. i have input in every aspect of the song.
Your influences?
my musical influences range from plastikman, neuropolitique, autechre, and coil to the music of Prefuse 73 and others on the Warp and M3rck labels. my music sometimes tries to recreate a "peak experience" and sounds as if one is on drugs.

Equipment used:
Everything is 100% digital. I particularly enjoy the crisp sound that digital sound has, and i get off on "digital trash," or the remnants of cutting, clipping, etc. that comes along with doing digital work.
