Woodpussy
NEWS   Since this page operates as a defacto Alewife site, I'll take this opportunity to let you know that the inner core of the band (Colin/Ben/me) convened this weekend at the Final Cut recording studio to lay down tracks for an as-yet-untitled project. After almost 40 hours straight, with all sorts of machines breakdowns and technical glitches with our rusty equipment, Ben, our drummer almost collapsed in a heap at his kit. It was a great weekend. More news on the ongoing recording process to follow. Pray for us.

Branching out from the more traditional structure of ALEWIFE, Colin Toline and Mitch McNeil, with able axe pinch-hitting from Tim Moran, set out to blaze a new path through the ether, and surrender their impulses to the blind hotwiring of ill-matched machines, set on overload, but lovingly leavened with the caress of analog sounds to keep it grounded. What results is a category-defying sound ... mindless martian funk? ... elevator muzak on steroids? ... robot dub? ... a misguided (and late) attempt to cash in on the Rave craze? Call it what you will. It brings a confusing stew of influences together, but adds up to just about nothing. And unlike the more public-minded ALEWIFE creature, which is occasionally experienced live by legions of inebriated revelers, this project exists solely as a studio phenomenon - so far. A bunch of grumpy guys. In fact, when we get together, sometimes it's ostensibly an ALEWIFE session, but after we get rolling, it becomes apparent that something's different. The music has swerved way off course, the machine lights are all blinking furiously. Then someone opines, "This is WOODPUSSY!" Very strange...
Why this name?
The name is old frontier slang for SKUNK.
Do you play live?
Woodpussy is a creature that flourishes only in the studio at present. There will come a day when we figger out how to make this happen live.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Hey, you're reading and listening. Nuff said.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Does not compute
