Welcome to Bennesota! Or Son of Rachel, or 3 the Hard Way! I believe you'll find my music genuine and insightful. I am currently working on an album, entitled "Do the Math" in which I challenge artist not to be affraid to be themselves. I have a variety of different types of songs but the reason i created this project was to give lovers of music and words a breath of fresh air. I just love writing and I think if you get a good listen in, you will find my lyrics fairly creative, and yes, the beats do knock! Special shout out to my man AdVANCEd Beats on most of the tracks, as well as Green Beats, Fallout and Keyth; the EQuilizers, Carson Ritz, J'Sun, C-Note, and Cho-C. I am also in the mist of making a gospel rap cd as well, and a cd with a group I am in called 3 the Hard Way as well... the gospel album is where i will be making my debut producing tracks--it is entitled "Jesus in the Mix". So, there you have it, it's Bennesota; it's not just a state of mind, it's a state of mine...
Think about it,
Peace
Why this name?
Bennesota is simply just my birth name (Benjamin) and the state i come from (Minnesota). It signifies my music as well because i just do me. My gospel name is Son of Rachel and my group is 3 the Hard Way(look out for pages for both)...
Do you play live?
I host an open mic series at my school, Webster University, in St. Louis. It's called "F1rst Friday's" and i perform there, but it gives other artist in the area an outlet to get their name out. I absolutely love it...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It sets a bar for artist. If you cannot put together a solid complete album, people will just download the one or couple song(s) they like. I believe it will bring the best out of artist.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Rapping, writing, poetry, creative stories, and prose are all my "strong" hobbies, so i say that i am not that serious, but if it got to that point, and i was still able to make "my" music, then yeah, i would definitely sign.
Band History:
February 18th/ 1986/ Fairview Riverside Hospital/ Minneapolis/ 12:07 PM/ a boy was born/ and his parents named him Benjamin/ Samuel Lawrence/ last name Roberts/ born 6 pounds/ 7 ounces/ but let's just round this/ to the time before Soundclick/ let's just skip to the part/ where the music inflicted my heart/ i was a poet to start/ but later fell in love with Hip Hop/ i thought, Common, the Roots, and Blackstarr was hot/ they inspired me jot/ my own rhymes and after that/ you couldn't use a "Tampax"/ to get my "flowin to stop"...
Your influences?
My biggest influences are the terrible state of Hip Hop we're in right now. I wanna give the audience a breath of fresh air. I grew up on Common, Blackstarr, the Roots, Beanie Sigel, Eminem, Royce 5'9'', (the new) Lil Wayne, Mad Skillz, Joe Budden, and Da T.R.U.T.H.. Production i love Timbaland, Kanye West, Eminem, Primo, AdVANCEd Beats, Carson Ritz, Fallout and Keyth, and Charlie Paige...
Favorite spot?
Of course it's in St. Paul, Minnesota, where ever my family is at... My favorite spot is either the basketball court or the recording booth.
Equipment used:
Whatever is available. I don't really use anything but the microphones... Lol, but i can make beats on Fruity Loops, but who can't?
Anything else...?
You will be able to purchase individual tracks or the whole album, once i figure that out. I should be done by May... Do the Math is a quality album, and my gospel album will be solid as well, but none of it is possible without God working through me. I don't cuss in my raps, but don't think i'm some Will Smith type... See for yourself.
