You must have ended up here from a link on either one of the forums or from my website.. and I hope its because you want to hear what I've got to offer.. Enjoy!
Why this name?
DJ Reel... well the "DJ" part was a no brainer, but the rest took a while. I'm all about being true and being real, but "dj real" seemed awkward, so I encorporated the alternate spelling because hopefully my music will reel you in..
Do you play live?
I am a DJ, but I don't spin my own work... YET!
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think its great! A lot of talent that would remain unheard is now being widely spread around. It is part of globalization, and also the downside to the digital format, originally created as a more efficient and cheaper means of distribution.. so essentially, only the greedy artist should be hurt.. unfortunately, the mainstream industry has taken a hard financial whippin' and more artists are being put on the spotlight as to what they will do about it. This is good in the sense that it is somewhat of a test, if the artist feels betrayed by the fan who downloads rather than pays, perhaps this artist should be happy that there IS a fan that downloads..
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Um... at this point in time.. no because it doesn't fit into my schedule.. I would consider releasing singles, but no company shall ever hold a contract on my creativity.
Band History:
I was introduced to electronic music when my friend would come back from summer trips to Europe and I'd check out what sorts of music he had.. I started promoting for raves and parties in 2000, shortly after I got my first set of table. However, I didn't really get serious about DJ'ing until early 2001, so I guess I've been doing this for 2 years. As far as production, I just completed my first production and am currently accepting feedback on how its goin.
Your influences?
I love percussion, although my track (itsumo) doesn't really reflect, I've got plans for a more tribal/progressive/tekHouse-ish tune where I can go into more depth with that. I grew up listening to all music like rock, jazz, alternative, oldschool jams, punk, oldies, hiphop, rap and even swingin' big band tunes! its ALL good..
Favorite spot?
my bed.
Equipment used:
i currently have technics TT's and a Stanton Dual CD deck, a gemini 1600W amp w/ some big speakers.. for production, its all software, Reason, Acid, Abelton Live, Magix, Cubase, its all you need.. and FruityLoops Studio, now a lot of people dog it, but I think its just that they don't give it a chance.. I used to think it was a program for people that didn't know what they are doing, but especailly with the new FLStudio4, its very good at handling a lot of work and I think its great because it allows newbies (that might be deterred by more heavy duty applications like Reason) to have a chance to get in the game.
Anything else...?
This is mostly a statement for the electronic music artists, please don't let the program control your thoughts/ideas/opinions about the music because then you let the program control you. YOU control the program, so if someone says they are using FruityLoops or something else that might not be considered "professional software" like Steinberg or Propellerheads, don't just assume that they are creating an amateur production. I give props to companies that make sophisticated software but with really great interfaces because there is soo much talent out there that doesnt' get its chance because some people just aren't as computer savvy.
