I started making music when I formed a band when I was 17, called Dial 116. A couple of years later I bought a primitive 4 track recorder and started to get into recording until I started to work in a community recording studio as a sound engineer recording other bands. The quality of local bands and musicians in Hull is incredible & because the studio allowed them to record there for free the place had a band in everyday for years, and it still does. I worked there for 7=8 years but I think I recorded so many sessions there that I got about 25 yrs of experience in time in session ammounts. I still have 2 big binbags full of 90 minute cassettes full of sessions. I may add 1 or 2 of the really best songs and bands from time to time.

Over the later years of this I became much more of a producer and recently I have just finished a co-produced album with Incredible British-Asian rapper/poet,
The Leano. Together we have started our own record label called
ColArj Records to release his album, "Steps to Leanoland." To hear demo's from this album please click
here.

Since I stopped working at the studio, I have got back into making my own music more. allthough it is much more electronic these days. These songs are just things i create to amuse myself basically.

The Music on this site & all other music i make uses no samples of anyone elses work or from sample cds. It is all about creation and performance. I do put vocals we have recorded into the sampler like in the song This is the 1.

Why this name?
It's my name.
Do you play live?
Sometimes I play live guitar with The Leano. We go to open accouctic nights and do Rap Songs. We have accoustic song on his album (steps to leanoland) called Ganjaholic that we play live too.

I also used to do Sound engineering for live concerts with PA firm "High Power Sound Systems" (HPSS) together we do sound for so many bands that I've forgotten most of them but we did the sound for Radiohead, Mica Paris, Desmond Dekker, Take That, Suede, The Boo Radleys, Ozric Tentacles, to name a few.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would sign a major record deal and so would The Leano and most of my friends, but only if the label was serious enough to pay an advance. Sometimes this advance money is the only cash an artist will make with a company so without it you could be working for years for them and never see any cash. And you could be dropped by them at any point. Once you have an advance then you know the company will work for you in order to make its money back.
Band History:
I have also played Bass with a Goth band called Fear, guitar with funky dance band called The Solid Groove Connection and guitars & special effects with trance band Universal Terrorform.
Your influences?
I have been influenced by every musical genre from 1977 punk days onwards. I'm still always listening to new styles of music when they emerge.
Favorite spot?
Some of the best times of my life were spent in a tiny recording studio in Hull. the sound room was about the size of the average bathroom & it had bleak dirty white walls and it smelt of performing drummers, but i would have to say that sitting in the chair mixing on the mixing desk is my favourite spot. I travelled around the sun 7 an a half times while making music in that room.
Equipment used:
I write pop songs for artists in a studio with lot of top equipment like a automated mackie desk & hard disk recorder, Cubase for midi, JD 800 synth and a casio cz1 as a master keyboard triggering sound modules by EMU, Planet Phatt, Proteus, Orbit, Mo'Phatt, Carnaval, Morpheus, a roland jv something, a novation and supernova. drum machines, alesis, rm50. a yamaha VL-1,

But I also have jams at my house with friends and we just use my pc and 1 mic. These songs are much more lo-fi than using the studio but we just record stuff all the time for fun so i don't try to hard to make them sound anything special.

Anything else...?
Luckily a lot of my friends i record with are extremely talented singers, rappers, toasters and spoken word poets so i can get them all to jam on tracks together and we get some good results. these are the rough tracks we make at my house but i will include these rare tracks for you to download sometimes. These songs will never be released, they are for the love and the vibe. keep checking back to find these songs.
