Policy Overkill is what you get when you run Kraftwerk and Wumpscut through a meat grinder. One guy sitting around, toying with synths and making stuff that can be experimental, minimalistic, dancey, and generic in various flavors.
Why this name?
It was mostly random. They were two words that worked well together and seemed to reflect what I think is one of society's ills. This idea that every stupid detail needs a policy of some sort is definitely overkill.
Do you play live?
Well, not with Policy Overkill. I play live in a community band that has nothing to do with this band. I enjoy playing live a great deal, I just can't figure out how to get this project on the stage.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it greatly improves it. Thanks to the internet, little unsigned guys like me can get exposure thousands of miles away from home. I would also never have listened to some of my favorite bands if I hadn't had the internet.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No. I might release some things on indie labels here and there but otherwise, I do NOT like the current state that the music industry is in.
Your influences?
The influences here are many. Kraftwerk is one of the big ones, as they are a bigtime runner in the electronic genres. There's also all sorts of industrial, techno, or whatever things, as KMFDM, Prodigy, and Apoptygma Berzerk are some of my favorite bands. At the same time, I rather like tribal-ish inspired drum rhythms and have taken a liking to Sepultura for using them sometimes. Beyond that, there's too many snippets and interests to list.
Equipment used:
My computer. That's it. I run Orion Platinum and some random softsynths I've picked up here and there.
Anything else...?
