Breezy Johnson
Born in Kissimmee Florida, lived in Orlando. Transplanted to Kentucky.
Right now I paint BIG houses for a living. I've played in several bands over the last 30 years but now I make all my music at the house all myself. I really want to get into tv commercials, film scoring, etc.
I'm a God fearing man and politics get me fired up! :-) We won't get into that right now though, I might share some of that with you if I start the blog.
Why this name?
A little over 25 years ago I hitch hiked a lot, Florida to Kentucky and Kentucky to Florida and to Nashville where I signed about 17 of my best songs to a publisher I haven't heard from since (watch yourself when signing anything)
Anyway, I was playing with some guys in Florida in a band called Crossfire (southern rock) and a band in Kentucky called Kajun. I hitched back to Kentucky and one of the guys said "You know, I'm gonna call you Breeze 'cause you come in, make everybody feel good then your gone again!" To cement the name, I went back to Florida without saying anything about the name and one of the guys said "Well, if it ain't the Breeze" in reference to the Skynyrd song. One of our fans made a shirt for me with the name on it and the name stuck. A lot of the female fans called me Breezy instead of Breeze so that's where it came from.
Do you play live?
I played live for years (played dead a few times too) but I quit drinking about 6 years ago so I don't go to bars anymore.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Well that's a sticky subject. Artist' have complained a lot about losing rights to their music to the big guys and the net seemed like a good alternative but, you can get sacked on the net unless you are very careful.
A lot of the "free" sites where you can put up your music have lawyer written terms of service most people don't understand, that can give all your rights away, letting the website owners or whoever they sell to down the road do anything with your songs. Sell them on compilation cd's etc without the artist getting a dime. A lot of the free sites want what they say is half of the profits from selling the mp3s when actually you have to pay whoever collects the money and the sites are making loads of money on advertising on the pages where people are listening to your samples. It's tricky, so make sure you read terms of service anywhere you post a song.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
That's a tough one. I wouldn't want to give the rights away to my stuff but, if the money was right...I don't want to paint houses the rest of my life. I like painting, but these old bones... LoL! :-)
Band History:
Too many to list but the most memories were from the Crossfire Band (southern rock) in Florida and Bustin' Loose (country rock, variety) in Kentucky.
