DIGESTING AMERICA IS A SMALL PILL
BUT DIGESTING AMERIKKKA IS A MOUNTAIN!
Seven, an Atlanta-based poet, authors Digesting Amerikkka, a masterful collection of poems addressing racism, sexism, religious epithets, capitalistic mores and the societal damages they incur.
For Immediate Release
AVONDALE ESTATES, GEORGIA/EWORLDWIRE/Feb. 16, 2006 --- Digesting Amerikkka is a journey through the injustices plaguing the society people live in. Seven’s creative use of spelling emphasizes the notion that the American society has embedded inequalities in need of exposure. “America is a dream for some and a nightmare for others," said Seven. "I want the peaceful sleepers to wake up, so I’ve made a 56 page cup of coffee.”
Many American’s share Seven’s sentiments. They are well aware of the path to beautiful dreams, but are running into blocked opportunities and nightmares. Digesting Amerikkka not only speaks to Seven’s generation, but many generations before her. She uses poetry to uncover these atrocities with the hope they do not plague generations to come. “These poems are about uncovering the cancer, quarantining it and developing a cure,” said Seven.
About The Author
Seven, who now resides in Atlanta, has been writing socio-anthropological poetry since childhood. Her studies in sociology, addiction and psychology are amplified by her experiences as a black, lesbian, single mother, allowing Seven to be on the forefront of issues surrounding racism, gender and social class.
In her writing, Seven integrates her academic knowledge with her personal experiences growing up and living in a small, racially segregated city in Upstate New York. She holds three Associates Degrees in Human Services, Chemical Dependency Counseling and Independent Studies (the Study of the Human Condition). She recently completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from SUNY IT in New York. Seven hopes to begin pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing.
Other books by Seven include Shapes Forming Me Within (1992), Remember Cornhill (1998), Pain Must Be Red, Mr. Brown (1999) unreleased, Verbal Assaults (1999) unreleased, Love Broken Philosophies and Glued Truths (2001) unreleased, Digesting Amerikkka (2006) and N, Terms of Endearment (2006) unreleased.
