Why this name?
Kaatza is the Native Indian name for Lake Cowichan where I grew up. It means "great lake."
Do you play live?
I don't play live very often anymore. The odd jam and I played in a praise band for a while.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Obviously it has made it easier for Indies to have their music heard by a larger audience worldwide.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course. Silly question.
Band History:
I played in rock bands through the late sixties and seventies. Since 1980, I have mostly done studio work and recording and the odd live gig or concert.
Currently I am working on demo film cues, trying to break into the soundtrack industry . . .

Your influences?
I grew up on Beatles, Stones, Who, then got into Doors, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield. In the 70s, I liked Doobies, Steely Dan, Little Feat, Little River Band, Eagles. I also like most classical music especially Beethoven and Mozart.
Favorite spot?
I like where I live, Sonora, CA. It is beautiful. I also still have my family home at Lake Cowichan, British Columbia and it is also beautiful. I love Vancouver and San Francisco. And I've only been to NYC once, but I loved it and can't wait to go again!
Equipment used:
My main axe is a '55 Les Paul Standard. I also have a Gibson Dove, Ovation and BC Rich bass.
My studio has a Machie 24x8 console, several sets of monitors, lots of older analog gear including a Fostex A8, Tascam DA88 and DA38 plus 2 computers: a Mac G4 Dual 800 and a P4, 3.0 GHz. My DAW is Logic 6.4.3 and I have collected many sample libraries.

Anything else...?
I am also a writer. I am working on my second novel. My first novel was a treasure, horror, thriller called "Slumach, The Lost Mine," published under the pen name Edgar Ramsey. My next book is a political thriller to be called: "Faith before Reason: The New America." (Part 1 of a 3 book series) I'll probably publish this one under my own name.
