SoundClick artist: Greg C Brown - Lyricist on an endless quest for the perfect melody.

I'm afraid I can't claim to be a band, although I have been known to jump on a bandwagon from time to time. No, I'm just a humble lyricist who is in absolute awe of the composers who have stumbled into my life and bothered to wrap a melody around some of my words. I've been attempting to legitimately call myself a lyricist since I was about 14 years old. Have a listen, won't you, and let me know if I qualify.

Why this name?

My parents gave me this name, and it's a good thing they did 'cause that's what everybody calls me.

Do you play live?

I do nightly performances in the shower, and complete concerts while driving alone in my car. And the shows are free!

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

It gives the wannabe singer, musician or songwriter greater opportunities to be heard by a much larger audience than in the days prior to when Al Gore invented the Internet.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I'd be more interested in placing my songs with a publisher who would in turn get them into the hands of an artist who should be asked this question (and who will hopefully say "Hail yes.")

Your influences?

I'm not sure my influences would be recognizable in my songs, but there are a number of artists whose repertoires includes songs I wish I had written: Beatles, Moody Blues, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Simon & Garfunkel, Nanci Griffith, Emylou Harris, Judy Collins, and many others crossing all musical genres.

Favorite spot?

Anywhere with my wife and kids.
